Sweet Hearts( December 30, 1938)
Nelson and Jeanette play a married couple who are playing with the idea of going to Hollywood. To prevent this, the producers get together and scam, causing Gwyn (Jeanette) to think her husband is cheating on her. Due to this, they do not go to Hollywood but spilt up, causing the producers to do more to get them back together. This movie is in Technicolor.
Let Freedom Ring (Febuary 24, 1939)
Nelson's Western! This is about a boy who returns home from a Big-City college to find his town fighting over issues. Can't say more then that or give the story away.
Balalaika (December 29, 1939)
Nelson plays a Russian prince who falls for a revolutionist singer, and therefore pretends to be a student. However during a Cossack raid on her neighborhood Lydia sees him. It is years before they meet again. Another great film.
Nelson plays a Duke who helps the peasents in the French Revolution. Disguising himself as a Bond-servent under Marianne de Beaumanoir he plans a revolt with the assitance of a overseas friend. He ends up falling for his 'owner' and she helps him escape after being told that a certian Duke was hiding in New Orleans. She decides to go back to France but on the way there, her ship is overtaken by the revolutionists. When they get into a storm, they get traped on a Island. THIS IS A MUST SEE. It is my favorite film of theirs.
BitterSweet (November 8, 1940)
Sari(Jeanette MacDonald) falls in love with her music teacher Karl (Nelson) and the two elope to Vienna where they have to work through many obsticules, including how to make money and the armoruous looks of another man.
The Chocolate Soldier (November 1941)
Nelson plays a musican who gets jealous and pretends to be a Russian opera star in order to test his wife's fidelidy. She however decides to play along and tests his limits. A very good movie.
I Married An Angel (May 1942)
Nelson is a spoiled playboy Count who falls asleep and dreams he "married an Angel" who turns out to be the last person he would have thought.
Phantom of the Opera (August 27, 1943)
This was a opera that inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical. The plot is mainly the same. It stared new star Susanna Foster.
Knickerbocker Holiday (March 17, 1944)
Nelson plays Brom Broeck, a New Amsterdam (New York) local who disagrees with the city council. He uses his printing press to revel the currupt and the new Govener decides to shut him up by hiring him.
Make Mine Music (ANIMATION) (1946)
Willie, a whale, is a talented opera singer. Thinking he swollowed a opera sinnger, Professor Tetti Tatti decides to go after the whale. Upon finding Willie singing a sex-part song, he claims that Willie must have swollowed three singers. Willie dreams of being a singer at the Met. This is a very good movie, especially for cartoon fans and younger fans.
Northwest Outpost (June 25, 1947)
Nelson plays a American frontier officer who helps protect the Russian colony in California. He ends up falling for a convict's wife who returns the feeling, but the convict stands in the way. The plot is deeper then the summary I just gave.
The Desert Song (May 5, 1955)
This was a Television special. Nelson plays the part of Pierrre, son of a French General. Secretly he is also the Red Shadow, a mysterious entity who wants the French to leave. But Margot comes and is left for Pierre to entertain. Another great story. I recommand it but it is very hard to find copies and it also is in fading condition
